A brief update and holiday gift idea...
It's a beautiful fall and we are just so happy to be alive and well here at Hey Baby! Headquaters. Dave is better everyday, doing some playing and even more singing, and we are working on bookings for next year. Both of us are at work on new albums-my dulcimer record should be ready by the first of the year with the next Dave MacKenzie album available shortly thereafter. Thanks so much for all of your orders, and for your well wishes and kind words.
We've been playing some limited but very special private and public events; last weekend I was part of the Celebration of Cultures here in Nashville's Centenial park where 15,000 folks were in attendance! We'll keep you posted as new dates come up.
With the holidays just around the bend, please consider ordering our Christmas songs-"Xmas Blues" by Dave MacKenzie <http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=79280296
>, and "Kisses For Christmas" <http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=75012388
and "Christmas Everyday" <http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=5904801
by Adie Grey can all be purchased from ITunes (links provided) and most other internet download retailers. You can create your own Hey Baby! holiday CD by ordering these songs and only spend $3! And that's the best way to help keep us going, as so many of you have asked.
so be well and drive safe, and don't forget to stay in touch!

just returned from Kentucky
hope you all are well; we sure are. Just returned from Louisville where I had a ball and performed on the show Kentucky Homefront at the historic Kentucky Theater in their lovely revitalized theater district. I was ably accompanied by Dave on resonator uke and mandolin, and by Nick Stump on guitar. It was a blast, a real treat, and I'm hoping we're going to team up again soon!
I'll keep on keeping you posted. Thanks for checking in.
all the best,

I'm happy to announce that I'm getting ready to go to the Pacific Northwest to perform and teach, and that I persist in playing around here in Nashville despite a long bout of taking care of my partner! I'll continue adding more live dates to the site soon; please keep on checking back. And don't hesitate to contact me-I'm available with the able help of my many musical pals.
I'm also working on my first all-dulcimer record with instructional booklet to go along with it; if you're not on the mailing list, please sign up and I'll let you know when the items are on the market.
stay cool and

Dave's got 2 fingers going!
The saga continues:
When we left him last time, our hero, Dave MacKenzie, had survived lung cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and was just beginning therapy for the nerve damage in his left hand, hoping to relieve it's claw-like shape so as to be able to use it for more than just a cup-holder.
We're happy to announce that, after 4 months of working on it, Dave now has the first 2 fingers on his left hand up and running. This means he can give the following hand signals:
1. We're number 1
3. Up yours
As for guitar playing, he's now working on basic rhythm and slide in open tunings, which means he can now (sort of) play Jimmie Reed songs like Elmore James and vice versa. Dave intends to go back to the ragtime style as soon as the third finger becomes more cooperative. Since the pinkie sustained the most damage, it's the digit least certain of full recuperation. If, however, he fails to bring it fully up to speed, Dave has decided to have his pinkie bronzed as a permanent, un-droppable slide.
In the meantime, we at Hey Baby! are happy to announce that Dave's fabulous new DVD, recorded live at the WC Handy Blues Fest in Henderson, Kentucky, is now available through Amazon.com and CD Baby, which means that it is also available to order at your local record store through Super D distributors. However, if you'd like to have Dave autograph your copy, the only way to do that is still to order it directly from us here at Hey Baby!, so we're extending our pre-release offer (thank you, thank you, thank you to those of you who ordered it ahead of it's official release!). Here's the deal: if you order directly from us, using a check or money order, we will send it at the current discounted price of $20, autographed at your request, with NO shipping charges for anything included in the DVD order (CD's from either Dave or Adie, multiple copies of anything) you name it, the shipping's on us. (Domestic orders only; we cannot make this offer to overseas customers-sorry!) Now might just be a great time to stock up on Christmas gifts (the holiday season will be at our throats before you know it).
Just follow this link <http://www.heybabymusic.com/form.html
> to download the mail-order form and write "email offer" at the top, so we'll know that you are not to be charged for shipping and handling.
Once again, thanks to those of you who pre-ordered the DVD, we sure hope you liked it. To those of you who haven't gotten around to it yet, this final word of encouragement; we absolutely guarantee that any and all profits from this product will be spent! So you might want to ask yourself, "Is one going to be enough?"
Your friends at Hey Baby! Records

DVD to be available next week!
The DVD "Dave MacKenzie Live at the WC Handy Blues Fest" will be available from us as a pre-release next week; should be able to ship copies as of Tuesday. I'm so excited I could spit! This is the only way to see Dave playing "Live" at the moment, and the show is lovely. We'll be sending out an email to everyone soon to brag about it.
Good health to all,

I am ecstatic to report the news from Dave´s follow visit with his surgeon last Monday-not only was he ready for all of the drains and sutures to come out, but he received a 100% negative pathology report, and that is 100% positive for him! and me!
What that means is that all of the tissue from around the tumor and all of the lymph nodes were completely free of cancer, and Dave is now a cancer free cancer survivor! There´s still a lot of healing left for him to do, and no surety that his left hand will come back enough to be the guitarist he was just last summer, but our number one prayer has been answered.
We have to hand it to the doctors, surgeons, nurses, staff and the entire team at Vanderbilt; they were incredible and we´ll be saying more about that as time goes on. Especially, we are thrilled that we´ve been able to spend this recuperative week in our own home surrounded by our friends and not at a hotel in an unfamiliar city.
Tomorrow Dave begins hand therapy and we´ll keep you posted on the results of that, but with or without the restoration of his facility, the restoration of his health renews our joy of living and our ability to foresee a fulfilling future.
As always, thanks for caring. Hope you all are well and taking good care of yourselves and each other,

Just wanted to let you know that Dave came through surgery Wednesday with flying colors; we have a very good prognosis, and Dave´s arm and hand nerves are traumatized but intact. It was a brilliant piece of surgery by Dr´s Ninan and Weaver. As far as the surgery goes, it was a best-case sceanario. We are grateful and hopeful, and Dave is stable and in a room, not in intensive care. Regarding the future use of his arm, we will have to wait and see, because there is surely some nerve damage.
I´ll be back there every day, and I´ll continue to keep you posted. I can´t get online in the hospital, so I´ll have to post messages when I´m home, but I wanted to let you know that all is as well as we could have hoped. I hesitate to be too gleeful here, just because the next few days still hold potential for complications, and I´m being cautiously thrilled.
Thanks again for all the prayers and well-wishes; they mean so much to us. I'll share all of your messages with
Dave. Please continue to keep your thoughts focused on a complete healing and forgive me for the very briefness of this note. We are so so very grateful.

This is a tough message to post, but I need to let everyone know that Dave MacKenzie is currently being treated for a rare form of lung cancer. His prognosis for survival is good, however.
The tumor is effecting Dave's ability to play due to it's location at the top of his left lung, compromising the nerves which allow his left hand to work. We don't know what the future holds for him, but are trying to find the very best doctors in the world for him to work with. Your prayers and well-wishes are appreciated.
We will soon be releasing a DVD of Dave's appearance on the Jubilee TV show; please join our mailing list so we can let you know of it's release. And please consider giving Dave's music as gifts to your friends this year; the best thing you can do to help him is keep him in business by buying his products.
I will continue to perform, accompanied by some of Nashville's finest musicians. Dates will be posted on the calendar on this website.
Again, thanks for your thoughts and prayers; we'll keep you posted.
All the best,

Did you know that we have a couple of new albums out? Dave's "Old, New, Borrowed and Blue", originally on Black & Tan Records (Belgium), and basically out of print for a while, was re-issued by Hey Baby! early this year, and has a nice new package. And my latest, "How to find a Rainbow" has been on the Americana charts most of the summer. It's been a great year. We had a wonderful time at Winfield last week; made some great new friends, heard some great music and got to do several exciting shows in the few days we were there. And Dave made the round of Bluesfestivals from Jacksonville Beach, FL to Western MD. It's been a blast.
We've got more new releases coming up early next year; we'll be contacting everyone in our database soon to let you know when these are ready. If you're not on our mailing list, I hope you'll click the link here on our site and sign up. We promise not to share your information with anyone...none of us need any more anatomy enlargement ads!
This fall, Dave appears on the PBS series "Jubilee", taped at last year's WC Handy Bluesfest in Henderson, KY; it's already been on in it's home KET viewing area, and will be on in other markets this fall. Check your local PBS station to see if "Jubilee" is on in your area, or check in with us about it.
Our hearts go out to all of the victims of this years tragic natural disasters. We look forward to a revitalized gulf coast, and can't wait to be able to get back down to that part of the world.
Please be careful and drive safe!

We just came back from a long overdue tour around Texas...had a great time as usual at the AllGood Cafe in Dallas and The Mucky Duck in Houston, and I finally got to meet Rusty Weir in Corpus at the Executive Surf Club.
I am at work on the third album that I've been promising for the last 5 years or so...it's half-way done, so it's for real this time.
I hope you all enjoy the new look of the website...we sure do!

Some of you are aware that the release of Dave's new album has had to be pushed back due to his illness last year. Now he is healthy, back in the saddle and stronger than ever, and the release date has been rescheduled for April 29th. Parties are being planned at this time; please make sure to send us your contact information so we can let you know when we'll be celebrating in your area, and keep checking the calendar page as more gigs are added to the schedule.

What a wonderful weekend we had; Dave's perfomance at the King Biscuit Festival on the Houston Stackhouse Main Acoustic stage went beautifully to a large and enthusiastic crowd under perfect autumn skies. Dave's new album, "Solo", is finally in our hands for advance purchases; it will be "officially" released in February. Contact us for details on getting yours now.
Don't forget to check out the CafePress site for Hey Baby! logo products; there is a sale going on right now.
for details and ordering.

We've been jammin' here at Hey Baby; Dave has had festival dates all summer and has just completed recording his latest album "Solo" which will be released early next year. Advance copies should be available soon; drop us a line for more information on ordering before the official release. And I've been writing like crazy and should have a new album of my own ready to go soon.
In the meantime, we've teamed up with the company "Cafepress" to be able to offer some products with the wonderful Hey Baby! logo; something folks have been requesting for a long time! Check out this link
to see what we've got so far. Email us with requests for other products; we aim to please.
Also, we are down to our last 25 copies of Dave's "Rats in my Bedroom" album. We do not plan to repress that one. So if you want one, now is the time. We also have a few cassettes left of all of the titles; if you are interested in cassettes, send us an email.
Christmas is fast approaching; our products are hand-crafted, unique and inexpensive gifts. Remember you can't get 'em in stores 'cause we can't get 'em in stores! Order today, and you might want to ask yourself "is one gonna be enough"?
Hope all is well in your world. We'll keep you posted about what's new in ours.

Hey Baby! Thanks for visiting us here at our new and improved web site. Still under construction, it nevertheless should be faster and easier to use even now.
